5 Different Types of Hypnosis Used in Hypnotherapy

Man reading a historical book with many books behind him.

It is important to note that not all Hypnotists use the following types of Hypnosis. The approach used may depend on the specific issue being addressed and the individual practitioners training and expertise.

Some of these types are:

1. Traditional Hypnosis: This type of Hypnosis is based on direct suggestions and commands. The Hypnotist will guide the person into a hypnotic state and then give tips to help them overcome a specific issue. 2. Ericksonian Hypnosis: Milton Erickson developed this type of Hypnosis based on indirect suggestions and storytelling. The Hypnotist will use a metaphor, analogy, and other indirect methods to communicate with the person's subconscious mind and help them overcome a specific issue.

3. Self-Hypnosis: This hypnosis involves teaching the person to induce a hypnotic state independently. 4. Cognitive Hypnotherapy: This type of Hypnosis combines traditional Hypnosis techniques with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help the person change negative patterns of thought and behavior. 5. Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) Hypnosis: This type of hypnosis uses techniques from NLP to help the person change their internal representation of the world and overcome specific issues.
